Neuss plays host to its annual Shakespeare Festival until July 16th.

DUSSELDORF, GERMANY, June 23, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The annual Shakespeare Festival is underway in the city of Neuss and is set to run until mid-July.

Some of the Bard's most famous works are recreated at the event, which got underway earlier this month and is celebrating its 21st anniversary.

All performances take place at a 500-seat reconstruction of Shakespeare's famous Globe Theatre built on the racecourse in Neuss 20 years ago.

Among the classic pieces that will be performed at the festival is the Globe Touring Company's interpretation of Hamlet, with music from Laura Forrest-Hay.

Forgoing avant-garde theatre techniques, the production simply involves a handful of travelling actors treading the boards on a wooden stage.

Hamlet will run from Monday June 27th to Wednesday June 29th, with the first two shows commencing at 20:00 local time and the finale due to get started at 15:00.

Tickets range in price from EUR16 to EUR36 (GBP14 to GBP32), depending on the seat.

Other highlights on the Shakespeare Festival bill include the Propeller Company's Comedy of Errors, a modern take on the famous farce that features a cast wearing football shirts and sombreros.

Each actor plays a musical instrument, with renditions often continuing right through the interval.

The English language show is due to make its German premiere on Wednesday July 13th, with the brief run also set to include performances on Friday July 15th and Saturday July 16th.

Times and prices are the same as those for Hamlet.

As You Like It, Macbeth and Richard III are among the other Shakespearean favourites that visitors can look forward to watching at the festival.

To reach the Globe Theatre from Dusseldorf, tourists can take the 709 tram to Stadthalle, which is around a seven-minute walk from the venue.
