DirectRooms.com - Wafaa Al-Nil Festival Take Place in Luxor this August
DirectRooms.com highlights that cities along the river Nile will be holding celebrations for Egypt's annual festival which marks the time when the river used to flood.
PHUKET, THAILAND, July 09, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Wafaa al-Nil is an event that has been held since the time of the Pharaohs as the river used to consistently flood at a certain time each year. The flooding was a time for celebration as the silt carried by the water was used to fertilize the crops and without the flooding it meant that the people would be without enough food.
Today in places like Cairo and Luxor the event is still very much celebrated even though the river no longer floods due to the construction of the Aswan High Dam in 1970.
From 15th August Egyptians have a two week holiday and festivities over this time generally include various shows and outdoor concerts such as belly dancing and traditional forms of music.
Children are also included as there will be plenty of games and competitions involving painting, music and dance. The topic of pollution of the Nile always comes under the spotlight too each year which helps to raise awareness of what people can do to improve the situation.
Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com, commented: "The festival stretches over two weeks and popular destinations such as Luxor are often even busier with the high number of extra people that make the most of the holiday. Demand for Luxor hotels is much higher over this time of year and visitors are highly recommended to have their accommodation booked in advance to avoid any complications on arrival."
