The Soi Dog Foundation is holding a special charity event in Phuket to coincide with the Melbourne Cup horse race this November.

The charitable body, which is dedicated to rescuing and aiding the stray dogs and cats of Thailand, is organising a special race day celebration on November 1st to mark the 2011 edition of the prestigious Australian sporting event.
 
Known as 'the race that stops a nation', the Melbourne Cup is a major date on the international racing calendar, with the Thai broadcast of the competition set to commence at 11:00 local time.
 
The fundraiser will kick off at 09:00 and will include sweepstakes, raffles, a buffet lunch and welcome drinks, with tickets costing 1,800 baht (GBP37.40) per person.
 
Guests are invited to dress as elegantly as they can, as prizes will be awarded for the best outfit and hat worn on the day.
